What health topics are trending right now? What sounds exciting, even sexy?

Just off the top of my head: The Keto diet. Mitochondrial energy. Activating autophagy. The benefits of intermittent fasting.

How about digestion?

Nope. Not glamorous or exciting at all. Yet I believe digestion is at the core of your health (pun intended). If you want dynamic energy, near-effortless body maintenance, a luminous complexion, and the ability to slow down aging, you’ve got to take care of your digestive health.

And how sexy is that?


Everything starts with—and returns to—digestion

Your diet is what you eat and nutrients are what your cells eat. If your digestion isn’t working optimally, those little organisms may be very hungry. When you digest, you’re breaking down your food into its elemental parts so it can effectively be used by your body. Without these nutrients, you can’t produce enough energy and your bodily systems can begin to go awry.

If you’re “regular” on the toilet and don’t suffer from heartburn or stomach pain, you might think that your digestion is fine. But there’s more to it than that. Digestive issues, it turns out, are very, very common.

To see how your digestion is doing, here’s a quick question to ask yourself: Do your clothes feel tighter at the end of the day than when you put them on in the morning? If you answered yes, that’s bloating. (If you answered no, is it because they stretched out while you wore them?) Bloating is a sure sign that something’s off with your digestion. It’s time for some more questions.

How’s Your Digestion?  

  1. Do you frequently pass gas?

  2. Do you often feel bloated, especially after meals?

  3. Do you burp after meals, even just small, barely noticeable burps?

  4. Does your meal ever feel like it’s just sitting in your stomach?

  5. Do you crave sweet or salty foods?

  6. Do you frequently wake up feeling nauseated, or do some foods make you nauseated?

  7. Is your poop sometimes lighter than the color of corrugated cardboard?

  8. Do you ever experience heartburn or acid reflux, or take medications for these issues?

  9. Are you frequently constipated--or have frequent diarrhea?

  10. Do you ever see undigested food in your poop?

  11. Do you have skin issues such as acne, rashes, dry patches, eczema, and/or psoriasis?

  12. Do you suffer from low energy, depression, and/or anxiety?

If you answered yes to even one of the above questions, learning how to optimize your digestion can benefit you. If you answered yes to more than one, improving your digestion right away can help fend off serious health problems in your future, as well as boost your energy, help you easily maintain your best body shape, and clear up your complexion.
