You Want Wonderfulness? Focus on the Nourish Facet

           Wonderfulness  the quality or state of being vibrantly healthy and feeling fabulous in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate behaviors and practices

 

As you read here last week, there’s so much health advice out there you could spend hours a day reading it and hardly make a dent. That’s why I became a health coach–to do the sifting of said information for you. It’s also why I’m creating The Wonderfulness Program Fundamentals–so you can have a simple proven program that helps you get back to the basics.

 

Focus on the big picture before finessing the details, right?

 

You don’t just have to sit around and wait for my program to launch to begin taking charge of your health, though. Look to the 5 Facets–Nourish, Move, Rest, Play, and Connect. When they’re all being addressed in your life, they synergistically boost your efforts from wellness to wonderfulness. But if that’s too confusing or overwhelming for you to take on right now, simply focus on one specific Facet.

 

 

Nourishing yourself is one of the best things you can do for your health  

 

Each of The 5 Facets are important, yet the Nourish Facet generally creates the greatest impact on your health and vitality. (Because of this, The Wonderfulness Program Fundamentals has more steps in this Facet than in any of the others.)

 

 

Nourishing yourself is one of the best ways to optimize your body shape

 

Approximately 80% of your body composition (water, fat, bone, and muscle mass) is affected by what you eat–not by how much you exercise! This is crucial to know. You can’t exercise your way out of a nutrient-poor, overly-processed diet. 

That’s good news! It means you don’t need to spend hours exercising every day, either.

 

 

Nourishing yourself goes beyond just eating  

 

Food is so many things. Food is life. Food is energy. Food is medicine. Food is information. Food is pleasure. Food is meant to nourish you–your body, senses, energy, and well-being. It’s absolutely necessary, and yet it can be an absolute indulgence, too. There’s nothing wrong with that. You’re made to eat a delicious array of different foods regularly.

Nourishing yourself is not about counting carbs or calories  

 

Many diets focus on specific macronutrients (fats, protein, carbohydrates) or cutting out certain foods. It’s not that these don’t work–it’s just that the same recommendations won’t work for everyone. Some people do better on lower carb/higher fat diets. You might need more carbohydrates to feel wonderful. While I need animal-based protein to feel my best, someone else may decide that they prefer to be vegetarian.

Calories are another pointless way to try to figure out how you should eat to support your health and vitality. As a unit of measurement, they have their purpose, but it’s not one you need to concern yourself with. Be happy that you have one less thing to worry about!

 

 

Nourishing yourself means figuring out what works for you personally

 

There is no single perfect diet that works for everyone. You are unique. Standardized diets are not. What works for one person–or even thousands–may not work for you. So how can you approach the Nourish Facet simply and effectively?

 

After years of studying different diets and their effects on vibrant health and longevity, I’ve come up with recommendations that can work for anyone. In The Wonderfulness Program Fundamentals I call them The Nourish Facet Principles. They’re extremely simple concepts. Yet their very simplicity is what often leads people to overlook them. By practicing these 4 principles, you’ll nourish yourself in a way that supports your body, senses, energy, and well-being. You’ll, also, bring pleasure back to your plate.

 

 

Your Nourish Facet Principles

Eat a variety of vegetables

Drink enough water

Enjoy more healthy fat (avoid unhealthy fat)

Fast regularly
